Mt. Enterprise, population 520, is located about 3 hours north of Houston in southern Rusk County. It lies in the heart of the Piney Woods of Deep East Texas at the crossroads of U.S. highways 259 and 84. Mt. Enterprise is centrally located between several institutes of higher learning: Stephen F. Austin State University, The University of Texas at Tyler, East Texas Baptist University, Kilgore Junior College, Panola Jr. College, and Tyler Jr. College. Mt. Enterprise I.S.D., home of the Wildcats, is a small 1A school district with an enrollment of approximately 400 students. The District is currently rated Academically Acceptable by the T.E.A. with the Elementary campus receiving a Recognized rating and the High School receiving an Acceptable rating.
