Wildcats vs. Union Hill

MOUNT ENTERPRISE - After the lightning gave way in the background, the Mount Enterprise offense began to light up the sky.

The defense? Two weeks. No points.

The effort by the defense, combined with 400 yards on the ground and a self-imploding Union Hill team all added up to a 49-0 rout for the Wildcats.

After taking a season-opening 39-0 victory against Maud last week, the Wildcats quickly picked up where they left off, driving the visiting Bulldogs backwards on their first possession.

The offense didn't take long to take advantage of the momentum as Reggie King took his first carry 19 yards to the end zone to give the ‘Cats a 6-0 lead midway through the first quarter.

Union Hill would respond with their only real threat of the night.

A nearly seven minute drive for the Bulldogs stalled at the Mt. Enterprise 24 where the defense held on downs. Then Kevin Pope stole the show.

Pope rolled up 108 of his 170 yards in the first quarter alone, then pounded in his first touchdown at the beginning of the second quarter, putting up a 14-0 lead.

The next UH drive ended in disaster, as Xavier Bryant, who was taking an unusual break from the goal-line offense, landed on a Blake Sanders fumble just inside Wildcats' territory.

They then upped the lead to 20-0 right before the half on a Shannon Davis touchdown, as he scampered to the corner untouched for his first of two scores on the night.

After the break, the Wildcats added two scores in just over two minutes as King took a reverse right to left, then cut back all the way across the field again, leaving a trail of Bulldog defenders in his wake.

Immediately following King's touchdown, Mt. Enterprise pounced on a muffed kickoff and struck paydirt again as Blake King hauled in a Larry Solomon pass to make it 34-0 for the home team.

Jamal Utuk and Davis would clean up the Bulldogs on runs of 3 and 83 yards, respectively, to close out the night and final the tally at 49-0.

Mount Enterprise finished with 24 carries for 399 yards on the ground.

Union Hill finished with 75 total yards.

The Wildcats host their third straight game Saturday when they entertain West Rusk for homecoming.

Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
