Wildcats vs. Cushing

Rivalry games seem to always prompt the old saying, "you can throw the records out on this one." Indeed, sometimes that proves to be the case, but not this week as the Mt. Enterprise Wildcats completed its steamroll of all pre-district opponents by defeating the Cushing Bearkats in Cushing by a final count of 40-22.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Wildcats rattled off 28 unanswered points to take a commanding lead to the locker room at the half.

Mount Enterprise kept the pressure on with a pair of second-half scores and rolled up 251 yards rushing to keep the ball out of Cushing's hands.

Jamal Utuk led the way for the Wildcats with 145 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 10 carries. Utuk scored from 22 yards and broke off an 82-yard touchdown run.

Anthony Lewis added two scores on the ground, reaching paydirt from 75 yards out and 15 yards out. Xavier Bryant finished with 64 yards and a two-yard touchdown on 14 attempts. Shannon Davis added a seven-yard touchdown run for the Wildcats.

With the win, the Wildcats move to 5-0 on the year and have a week off on Oct. 5th before beginning district play against another undefeated team at Carlisle on Oct. 12. The game will be the district opener for both teams, and in a loaded district 20A, will be the first of many games with immediate playoff implications.

The 22 points that the Bearkats put on the board were the most surrendered by the stingy Wildcat defense so far this year. In five games, the Wildcat defense has held its opponents to an average of less than one hundred yards total offense per game and a total of 29 points. In contrast, the high powered Wildcat offense has put up a total of 174 points so far this season, and is averaging around 300 yards total offense per game.
