Mount Enterprise bounces back in huge way

OVERTON - After a one week stay in the top 10, the Mt. Enterprise Wildcats took the field against Overton seeking a little revenge and hoping for a shot at the district championship.

From the looks of it, it wasn't pretty, but they got both.

With the Wildcats' 46-20 victory over the Overton Mustangs coupled with Tenaha's 42-14 upset of No. 7 Joaquin, Mount Enterprise will have a chance to regain a share of the district lead next week against the Tigers.

While the score against the Mustangs looked like another Wildcat blowout, the game itself looked just as ugly.

The Wildcats would capitalize off of Overton penalties and miscues to roll up their seventh victory on the year.

First, the Wildcats intercepted two Mustang passes back-to-back.

That, coupled with a blocked punt returned for a touchdown and excellent field position, gave the Wildcats reason to celebrate.

However, the Wildcats nearly caught Overton on penalties and lost the ball twice on their own, something which has been uncharacteristic of the ‘Cats.

In the first half, the Wildcats would jump out to a 13-6 lead on two Xavier Bryant touchdowns, in between those drives, Overton quarterback Telvin Darden fired two interceptions.

Overton's bad luck continued, late in the 2nd quarter as the Mustangs would score on a Darden run, but the extra point would be blocked right into the arms of Anthony Lewis, who would race 75 yards untouched to give the ‘Cats a 15-6 edge.

Mt. Enterprise would lose the ensuing kickoff but held Overton to punt, and yet again, disaster struck in the form of Bryant, who came in untouched and blocked the kick back to the three yard line, where Zimmerman was able to pick up the ball and cross the line with a host of Mustangs in tow.

In the second half, Mt. Enterprise would roll up three more scores while Darden finished off his night with two more Mustang touchdowns. On the night, Darden would finish with 86 yards passing on 7-of-12 passing with the two interceptions.

As for the Wildcats, Quarterback Larry Solomon finished with 72 yards on 5-of-7 passing for two scores. He had touchdown passes to Blake King and Lewis.
