Junior Whitney Risinger was recently named to the Texas Girls Coaches Association All-State Basketball Team. She was one of only thirty girls statewide named to the 1-A All-State team and the first Galcat All-Stater since Maranda Roberts was named to the team 15 years ago. Earlier this year, Whitney was also unanimously selected as the District MVP for District 20-A after averaging 11.7 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.6 steals per game for the Galcats. Risinger was solid from behind the three-point arc, averaging 33% for the year; in addition, she shot 71% from the free-throw line. Whitney's superior play this year, coupled with outstanding efforts from all of her teammates added up to a 12-0 district record for the Galcats and a second straight district crown. MEISD Superintendent Dean Evans remarked on Risinger's accomplishment: "I'm very proud of Whitney, and I think it's an outstanding honor she deserves."
