Mount Enterprise High School Student Council Awarded Sweepstakes at 73rd Annual TASC State Conference

Six Mount Enterprise High School Student Council members attended the 73rd  annual state conference of the Texas Association of Student Councils at the Arlington Convention Center on March 29-31.  C. J. Craddock, Amanda Jones, Alex Lee, Emma Morton, Sara Sanders, and Breanna Starr were the MHS delegates. Some 4300 student delegates and advisors from 1300 Texas schools were in attendance at the state conference.

TASC state awards are given to schools meeting the required point totals and documentation for the following project areas: school, state, and national pride and patriotism; energy and environment projects; drug, alcohol, safety, and health projects; community service; and outstanding student council criteria.  Schools that fulfilled all the necessary requirements and won the above named awards were also awarded TASC Sweepstakes.  Mount Enterprise won all of the above awards at the District 4 TASC conference on March 4, and became eligible to receive the awards at the state conference in Arlington.  This is the fifteenth consecutive year for Mount Enterprise to win the prestigious student council awards which includes Outstanding Student Council and Sweepstakes.

The MHS Student Council completes over 90 projects each year related to school and national pride, the environment and recycling, energy conservation, drug and alcohol awareness, health issues, safety projects, and community service. During the 2008-2009 school term Mount Enterprise has been involved with raising funds for  such projects as the Alzheimer’s Memory Walk, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, the Texas Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Special Olympics, and the Mount Enterprise Angel Tree. Student council and Leadership Class students are currently planning April recycling projects to make bluebonnets from plastic canned drink rings and Easter bunnies from white film canisters and from laundry scoops. Several students will work as volunteers at the Special Olympics spring games at Lufkin High school on Saturday, April 18.
